In view of many limitations in evaluating elasto-plastic deformations of structures by using elastic response spectrum in aseismatic design code for buildings,this paper proposes that elasto-plastic responses of structures under the action of exceptionally serious earthquakes are directly calculated by applying elasto-plastic response spectrum.
